About Jo at no 40
'Jo at no 40' is a workshop on the High Street in Uppingham where you can learn to upholster in the traditional way.
Specialising in traditional upholstery it is a joy to see how many people have already learned to love this craft and have created fantastic furniture to enjoy.
Over a number of days the courses are designed for you to bring a piece of furniture, be shown how to strip it back to a sound base and then build it back up to the finished top cover.
You can book in for the days that suit you and gradually work on what your furniture needs.
The courses are fun and you will be working with a mixture of new and experienced upholstery students in small groups of up to 6 people.
You will learn to upholster in the traditional way using tacks, hessian, hair and other traditional methods. Tools can be hired or purchased and all the traditional materials can be purchased from Jo as you need them. The choice of top fabric is yours.
In the last year I have started running other craft courses from roman blinds, cushions, xmas crafts, knitting and other crafts brought in by local artists. This has allowed everyone to learn, enjoy and create other crafts.
The workshop here in Uppingham is situated on the High Street East, and is in an old red brick Georgian building, with lots of quirky features and a little courtyard to relax in.
Developing this new business to take my lifelong hobbies to share with others has been a joy, and I would love you to share it with me.
